Aerospace

The Department of Aerospace, University of California, Los Angeles, is dedicated to Air Force reserve officer training corps (AFROTC) Detachment 055, located at the UCLA itself. The curriculum provides students with elective courses ranging from leadership and management to national security. Candidates who are able to complete the ROTC curriculum successfully receive a commission as a Second Lieutenant after graduation.

Apart from the master’s and doctorate programs, Samueli School of Engineering, UCLA, also offers courses with mechanical engineering under the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE). The fields of expertise that are offered encompass disciplines like manufacturing and design, fluid mechanics: heat and mass transfer, structural and solid mechanics, nano and microelectromechanical systems, systems and control and dynamics.

The Samueli’s Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering has managed to achieve an ideal balance between structured learning and providing design-oriented opportunities to its students with the ‘robots to rockets’ curriculum.     Biotechnology 

    The biotechnology department of the University of California Los Angeles is established in order to offer comprehensive graduate, undergraduate, and research programs. The programs encapsulate multiple disciplines including biological chemistry, bioinformatics, bioengineering, biomedical, biomathematics, and biostatistics. The department of bioengineering provides pioneer programs for molecular and cellular engineering, tissue engineering and regenerative medicines, and biomaterials.

    The graduate students from the chemical and bioengineering department (CBE) of the UCLA are benefited with the courses in chemistry, life sciences, and medicines on the UCLA campus itself.     Chemical

    The introduction of biotechnology led the university to convert the Department of chemical engineering into the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. The department which is a division of the Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Sciences has been a guide in finding long-lasting solutions to many problems of societal importance. In addition to the core chemical engineering courses, students can also choose specialized domains like semiconductor manufacturing, environmental chemical engineering, and biomolecular engineering.

    UCLA offers undergraduate, graduate, and research programs in the field of chemistry and chemical engineering in compound domains covering bio-molecular engineering, biochemistry, and material sciences. Including biochemistry, chemistry, and material sciences, the university has more than fifteen hundred majors.     Civil

    Taking into account the societal necessity of the civil engineering department of the Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science, UCLA has been renamed to the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. The department provides courses in five sub-disciplines which are civil engineering materials, environmental engineering, Geotechnical engineering, hydrology and water resources engineering, and structural mechanic and earthquake engineering.

    The department offers regular undergraduate and graduate programs in the above-mentioned specializations. Each subdivision has multiple research areas. The current research area in civil engineering materials is inorganic, random porous material with a focus on developing next-generation construction material. The research in environmental engineering focuses on the process development for water and wastewater treatment systems and investigation of the fate and transport of environmental contaminators.

    Geotechnical engineering is currently dealing with the effects of soil and soil deposits on the performance, stability, and safety of civil engineering constructions.

    Research in hydrology and water resources engineering focuses on the subjects of surface and ground-water processing, hydrometeorology, watershed responses to disturbances, and optimization of conjunctive use of surface and ground-water. The department also offers an online program with a degree of Master of Science in Engineering with a certificate of specialization in sustainable water engineering.

    Computer Science

    The Department of Computer Science at UCLA is one of the top five places known for computer science and computer engineering education and research.     The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering is one of the most shining divisions of the Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science, UCLA. In spite of being a young division, the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering has managed to find a place in the top five places for engineering education, much ahead of the other seasoned departments.

    The department offers BS, MS, and Ph.D. degrees in the fields of communication, control, and operational research, thereby covering almost all the fields of study in electrical and computer engineering.  It lays focus on three areas - Circuits and embedded systems, Physical and wave electronics, and signals and systems, providing dedicated supervision and guidance in each area.     Environmental

    The Department of Environmental Science and Engineering provides one of its kind professional doctorates, Doctorate of Environmental Science and Engineering (D.Env.). Students can conduct off-campus doctoral residency with government, public and non-profit organizations, private consultancies and NGOs.     Material Science

    The Department of Material Science and Engineering (MSE) at UCLA focuses on blending material sciences with the present challenges of the world encompassing energy, environment, communications, health, and infrastructure.

    Students enrolled with the MSE department have the option to choose their area of expertise from the fields: Electronic and Optical Materials, Structural Materials, and Ceramic and Ceramic Processing.

    The mechanical division of the Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, UCLA, is a compound division at the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department.
