Automotive Engineering

The Automotive Engineering program is the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science's only approved program of its kind in Canada that trains engineers to cater to the developmental needs in Automotive Engineering by promoting the development and improvement of alternative technologies such as hybrid and fuel-cell-driven vehicles. The program offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees. Bachelor of Engineering (Honors) and Bachelor of Engineering and Management (Honors) are full-time degrees.

The Master of Applied Science (MASc) and Master of Engineering (MEng) programs in Automotive Engineering provide students with an in-depth understanding of advanced automotive technology and processes. MASc is a thesis-based course, while MEng is either a course-based course or a major project-based course. These graduate programs allow students to study all the major areas associated with automotive systems that include scientific principles, techniques of analysis and methodologies of design.

Students with undergraduate degrees in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering or other engineering or science fields are eligible for these courses. The multidisciplinary complexity of automotive systems, spanning from engineering to electrical power/control systems and others, gives students the opportunity to gain broad exposure at an advanced graduate level in different disciplines.

    Mechanical Engineering

The Mechanical Engineering program deals with mechanical engineering principles—motion, energy, and strength—and how these principles are used to design and build the world around us. There are options to specialize in energy engineering or pursue a comprehensive Bachelor Engineering (Honours) degree in the first year and then switch to another engineering programme in the second year.

  • list items Bachelor of Engineering (Honors) and Bachelor of Engineering and Management (Honors) are the undergraduate programs,
  • list items MASc: Courses with MASc research thesis; MEng: Course-based or courses with major project and PhD are the graduate courses.
  • The master's programs in Mechanical Engineering allow students to study all the main areas associated with mechanical engineering. However, the programs include three primary research fields which students can concentrate on.

The students will get to discuss key potential technical areas that employers expect to be in high demand: Design; Energy and Thermofluids Engineering; and Mechatronics and Manufacturing Engineering.

The PhD program in Mechanical Engineering prepares graduates for a career in research, industry, government and/or teaching.
