  • The research conducted in the department focuses on innovations in health, environment and sustainable resources in the areas of new medical treatments and devices for the identification and assessment of pollutants and air quality. In 2016, the department was awarded over $14M in research to deliver innovations that help the people, economy and environment.

    The graduate courses on offer are: 

    Master of Applied Science (Medical Physics): The graduate programme helps students to have a career in the medical and health physics discipline. Graduates of this discipline can find employment in hospitals, health departments, tertiary institutions and medical instrumentation companies. The course takes 1.5 years full-time or 3 years part-time to complete.

    Master of Engineering: The graduate programme improves students’ capabilities in information literacy, problem solving, application of theory, engineering design, etc. Students can choose from specialisations in:

  • Students are required to complete 96 credit points.

    Master of Philosophy

    Master of Professional Engineering: This programme is for practising engineers who want to learn advanced knowledge and skills in a chosen engineering field or want to move into an engineering management role.

    Students have to choose from two streams as a part of this major:

    Mechanical engineering stream: Provides advanced theoretical understanding and knowledge of engineering practices in mechanical engineering. It focuses on the technical discipline area, sustainable and ethical considerations, and evidence-based practices.

    Mechanical and management stream: It leads to a specialisation in mechanical engineering. It combines a formal qualification in management with advanced mechanical engineering skills and knowledge.

    School of Civil Engineering and Built Environment

    The school provides courses that address real-world solutions in the building, construction and transport industries. The disciplines offered by the school are: Civil Engineering, Construction and Project Management, and Property and Planning. The school has partnered with QUT's Institute for Future Environments and Institute of Health and Biomedical Innovation with a focus on solving global challenges.

    Master of Engineering Management: Students can study quality control, organisational infrastructure management, and development of decision support systems in this programme. Students are taught an integrated computer-based approach to monitor and manage internal and external resources of an organisation including tangible assets, financial resources, materials and human resources. It facilitates the flow of information between all business functions inside the organisation and manages connections to outside stakeholders.

    Students have to complete 96 credit points of course units. 

    International students can go for a combined masters package in either of:

  • The programme takes 1 year for full-time and 2 years for part-time.

    Master of Professional Engineering: The programme is ideal for practising engineers who want advanced, cutting-edge knowledge and skills in an engineering field or want to move to an engineering management role. This two-year course provides a developmental path for professional engineers to master skills and the interaction of disciplines.

    Students can choose from three streams as part of this major:

    1. The civil engineering stream: Covers a broad spectrum of civil engineering disciplines, expanding the knowledge gained in undergraduate degrees and allowing one to apply it to complex problems. The course will deal with the future challenges in the sustainability of civil infrastructure with respect to global warming and population growth.
    2. The civil and construction stream: Provides advanced studies in design, building and maintenance of civil infrastructures, while expanding the knowledge gained in undergraduate degrees. It explores the sustainability of buildings, roads and utility networks in the context of future challenges to prepare students for a changing world.
    3. The civil and management stream: Provides advanced studies in the broad spectrum of civil engineering disciplines, expanding the knowledge gained in undergraduate degrees and complementing it with relevant management theory and practice in preparation to prepare students to solve complex tasks in managing civil engineering projects.

    Master of Project Management: This course provides knowledge and experience in managing projects in professional organisations. It addresses the main concepts and methodologies of project management and provides opportunities for advanced study for cognate students.

    The combined masters packages allow students to complete two masters degrees in just two years.

  • Master of Data Analytics helps to solve domain-relevant problems by synthesising knowledge from mathematics, statistics, computer science, information systems and business process management.

    The students must complete 192 credit points of course units.

    It is 2 year-full-time programme.

  • list items Master of Engineering - This course  prepares professional engineers for careers which require advanced and practical engineering knowledge in specialist fields such as electrical engineering and mechanical engineering. It will provides the required skills to address the problems in a creative way. 
  • list items Master of Information Technology - Students in this programme will get to acquire advanced knowledge in the discipline of information technology and formulate the best IT solutions.This program will make you eligible for senior IT-related positions of higher degree research by equipping you with the specialist knowledge and skills. Students are most likely to work in areas of cyber security and networking, enterprise systems, and data science. This program can be completed in 2 years full-time of 4 years part-time.

    Master of Business Process Management: In this programme, students have to study corporate systems and business process management, project management, IT consulting, enterprise architecture, enterprise systems, and information management with business processes.The programme can be completed in 1.5 years full-time or 3 years part-time. In this course, students can undertake project-based units that require them to apply theoretical and technical knowledge in the development of BPM related artefacts, use real world and research-inspired problems, use advanced analytical, conceptual and logical thinking processes to solve novel and complex problems, cover relevant contemporary BPM and interpersonal capabilities necessary to move into senior professional positions.

    Students are required to complete 144 credit points of units.
