    Campus & Accommodation

At Carnegie Mellon, the residential experience encompasses all facets of a student's life. Housing Services and the Office of Residential Education together make their stay at the university really enjoyable and safe. It is their home, and it is here that they will learn more about themselves, their community, and the world around them. Staff and residents form deep relationships within a supportive community that encourages inquiry, growth, and learning.

Traditional residence halls, apartments, suite-style living, and entire homes are among the housing options available at Carnegie Mellon.

Residence halls feature wifi networking, housekeeping for common areas (shared toilets, kitchens, lounges, and hallways), adjacent parking (extra fees apply), and block living. They are located on campus near classrooms, eating, fitness centers, events, libraries, and more. Singles, doubles, triples, and quads are available in the halls, however there are no in-room cooking facilities.

Apartments often come with efficiency, one-bedroom, two-bedroom, and three-bedroom options, as well as in-room kitchen facilities. They are a fantastic option for students who want to live in the neighborhood but still have access to the amenities of on-campus living.

CMU students can apply for off-campus housing because graduate students are not permitted to live on campus. Oakland, Shadyside, and Squirrel Hill are three prominent off-campus housing districts. Most students choose to reside in these three regions since they are the nearest to school. Squirrel Hill has reasonable rental rates and is conveniently located near public transportation. The CMU Escort route passes via Squirrel Hill.

Bloomfield and Greenfield are a little further out from campus, but they are still within walking distance and on city bus routes. Friendship, Point Breeze, Highland Park, and Lawrenceville are even further distant from the university than those listed above, but they are still within commuting distance and are served by city buses.

North Side, South Hills, and Aspinwall are all within commuting distance despite being on the other side of the rivers (gasp!). Although public transit is available, commute times are significantly greater than in other places. Students seeking a Master's degree in Software Engineering have the option of living on campus in Silicon Valley.
