The Department of Biomedical Engineering (School of Engineering and Applied Sciences) offers one of the most innovative engineering programs in the discipline. Being one of the youngest departments at the university, it has the advantage of carrying a strong interdisciplinary focus and industry-oriented teaching and research. The department aims to nurture young talent that seeks to devote itself to a better understanding of human physiology and development of biotechnology to effectively tackle diseases.     Chemical and Environmental

    The Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering has earned the reputation of being a fertile ground for the development of emerging sub-disciplines in chemical engineering. 16 full-time faculty members bring to the table a wide array of research interests. They have a knack for bringing the best out of their students by making them realize the worth of their ideas through practical exposure and guidance throughout their research experience.

    The department conducts its chemical engineering programs with a strong focus on the sustainable future of humanity and concentrates on the molecular chemistry for the development of new solutions. Strong industry linkages and state-of-the-art research facilities make sure that Yale chemical engineers are a step ahead as they enter into their careers.

    A notable accomplishment of this department includes the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2002 won by Professor John Fenn.

    The department has also pioneered training and research in the field of environmental engineering by taking the most pressing environmental concerns head-on.     Computer Science

    The Department of Computer Science at Yale takes pride in being one of the leading places in the US actively contributing to science disciplines like engineering and mathematics and humanities disciplines like psychology, linguistics, and economics.     The Department of Electrical Engineering has stood at the forefront of innovation in delivering training and producing solutions to the industry in one of the broadest engineering disciplines. A healthy faculty-student ratio ensures that the faculty is able to bring the best out of its students by paying personal attention and by channelizing their energies into the most promising industry-driven research in electrical engineering.

To point out a notable achievement of the department faculty, Xia and Kramer-Bottiglio from the department were recently honored with the Presidential Award in Science and Technology.     The Department of Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science takes pride in creating thinkers of the future through its cutting-edge research-based programs.     Pure Sciences
