What are the eligibility criteria for Chevening scholarship?
To be eligible for a Chevening Scholarship, you must:
- Hold citizenship in a Chevening-eligible country or territory.
- Commit to returning to your country of citizenship for a minimum of two years after completing your scholarship award.
- Have completed all components of an undergraduate degree that qualify you for entry onto a postgraduate program at a UK university. This usually requires at least an upper second-class 2:1 honours degree or its equivalent.
- Possess a minimum of two years' work experience, equivalent to 2,800 hours.
- Apply to three eligible UK university courses and secure an unconditional offer from one of them before the deadline of 13 July 2023.
Note: If you already possess a master's degree, it does not disqualify you from applying for a Chevening Award to pursue a second master's degree in the UK. However, you must provide a clear justification for why obtaining a second master's degree would aid you in achieving your career goals of driving positive change in your home country.
Eligibility for work experience
The eligible types of work experience for Chevening Scholarship include: Full-time or part-time employment. voluntary work, paid or unpaid internships
- Work experience completed before, during, or after undergraduate studies is eligible
- Any mandatory employment that counted towards your undergraduate or postgraduate course would not be eligible
- The work experience requirement does not have to be met in a single period of employment
- Applicants can submit up to fifteen different employment periods to meet the requirement. If you have held more than fifteen positions, enter the periods with the most number of hours worked
- If currently employed, it is not necessary to resign, but applicants are advised to discuss the application with their employer and ensure they will be released if selected for the scholarship.
Note: Your total hours worked will be computed by multiplying the number of weeks worked by the number of hours worked per week. Please note that a full-time workweek consists of 35-60 hours and a full-time work year consists of 40-50 weeks.
