What counts as a good score? Per ACT, a good ACT score is one that meets or exceeds the average score of students admitted to the colleges you're applying to. As a benchmark, the national average ACT Composite score was 19.4 in 2024. ACT's own banding indicates that scores of 24–28 are strong for more selective colleges, and 30–36 are widely accepted at top-tier schools.
Superscoring: Your Superscore is the average of your highest section scores across all ACT test dates, and many colleges accept Superscores, so every retest is another chance to raise individual sections. For test-takers since September 2016, ACT automatically creates a Superscore using your highest English, math, and reading section scores.
