DAAD Scholarships

DAAD (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst) Scholarships are highly competitive scholarships awarded by the German Academic Exchange Service. The scholarship program provides financial assistance to international graduate, doctoral, and postdoctoral researchers who wish to study, research, or teach in Germany. Indian students are eligible for 20 DAAD scholarships from the 180 different scholarship options available to all international students.

The scholarship offers a monthly stipend, travel allowances, health insurance, and language course support. The scholarship duration varies, depending on the program and level of study.

What are the Benefits covered by the DAAD Scholarship?

DAAD Scholarships come with wider coverage of expenses that an international student has to meet in Germany, including:

  • Travel expenses
  • Family allowances
  • Health insurances

Also, DAAD Scholarships allow students to work part-time or receive other scholarships, provided the earnings from those would not exceed 520 EUR per month. It’s important to note that DAAD scholarships do not cover the tuition fee.

How to get selected for the DAAD scholarship?

From a cluster of applications every year, DAAD Scholarship beneficiaries are selected in the following way:

  • A separate selection committee will review the scholarship applications. 
  • The selection is based on the applicant’s study objectives, academic achievements, extracurricular activities, and social involvement. Language skills may also be a consideration for some scholarships.
  • An interview of the shortlisted candidates may happen in person or online.
