To be a beneficiary, candidates must fulfill the German Chancellor Fellowship eligibility criteria listed below:
Be a citizen of India, Brazil, China, South Africa, or the US.
The field of study must be politics, business, media, administration, society, or culture.
The first academic degree must be completed within the past 12 years from 01 October 2024.
Wish to do an independently developed project with a host institution in Germany.
Meet the required knowledge of English and/or German.

The Humboldt Foundation invites 18 early beneficiaries of the fellowship from each of the eligible countries.
The panels interview candidates and conduct group discussions.
The selection committee selects up to 10 candidates from each eligible country.

Yes. The fellowships are active from August 01 of the year of selection to March 31 of the year after the next. Students can plan their 12 months of study in between this time frame.
Students can use the online form “declaration of acceptance” to inform the foundation on how they will distribute the fellowship period. The form will be available on the student’s personal dashboard after two or three weeks of selection.
The fellowship period can be reduced but not extended. To reduce the period, students can submit an informal letter to the foundation. However, 6 months is the minimum period for the German Chancellor Fellowship.
There is no grant for attending seminars or conferences in the German Chancellor Fellowship. However, there will be a mobility allowance of 100 EUR per month to travel within Germany for personal and academic purposes.
There is no age limit specified for the German Chancellor Fellowship. However, it is mandatory that applicants for the fellowship must have completed their first academic degree within the past 12 years.
