    To be a beneficiary, candidates must fulfill the German Chancellor Fellowship eligibility criteria listed below:

  • list items The first academic degree must be completed within the past 12 years from 01 October 2024.

    Is the German Chancellor Fellowship flexible with the student’s study plans? 

    Yes. The fellowships are active from August 01 of the year of selection to March 31 of the year after the next. Students can plan their 12 months of study in between this time frame. 

    How to inform the foundation about the student’s fellowship months? 

    Students can use the online form “declaration of acceptance” to inform the foundation on how they will distribute the fellowship period. The form will be available on the student’s personal dashboard after two or three weeks of selection.

    Can the German Chancellor Fellowship period extended or reduced?

    The fellowship period can be reduced but not extended. To reduce the period, students can submit an informal letter to the foundation. However, 6 months is the minimum period for the German Chancellor Fellowship. 

    Does the German Chancellor Fellowship offer grants to attend conferences? 

    There is no grant for attending seminars or conferences in the German Chancellor Fellowship. However, there will be a mobility allowance of 100 EUR per month to travel within Germany for personal and academic purposes. 

    Is there any age limit to apply for the German Chancellor Fellowship?

    There is no age limit specified for the German Chancellor Fellowship. However, it is mandatory that applicants for the fellowship must have completed their first academic degree within the past 12 years.
