Lamar University was founded in 1923 with just 125 students on board. The university has developed a lot since its existence in terms of education and number of students as well. The Dan F. Smith Department of Chemical Engineering provides programmes in the discipline of Chemical Engineering that combine chemistry, physics and engineering. This combination goes on to solve problems involving the use or production of chemicals to develop new materials and processes, to increase efficiency and lower cost. The degrees offered by the department are Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering; Master of Engineering (M.E.) (non-thesis); Master of Engineering Science (M.E.S) (thesis) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.). The undergraduate students and faculty in the chemical engineering department work in all areas of chemical engineering including chemical process systems, biochemicals, petrochemicals, renewable energy, and nanotechnology. The university is located in Beaumont, Texas, home to four refineries and many chemical plants. Lamar University College of Engineering offers three graduate degree programs with a concentration in Chemical Engineering. The Master’s degrees with a concentration in Chemical Engineering deepen knowledge about various aspects of chemical engineering. Civil and Environmental
The Civil and Environmental Engineering Department provides its Civil Engineers with the opportunity to participate in a broad spectrum of operations such as studies, design, growth, management, and control of engineering systems and parts. In addition to numerous graduate degrees, the department offers undergraduate degrees. The Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering enables faculty members and undergraduates to conduct studies in all fields of Civil Engineering including Structures, Geotechnical, Transportation Systems, Environmental Systems, Construction, and Water Treatment while focusing on creating environmentally sound systems. There are two master’s degree plans: Master of Science in Environmental Engineering and Environmental Studies. The department also offers 3 additional graduate plans - Master of Engineering (non-thesis); Master of Engineering Science (thesis) and Doctor of Engineering. The graduate students engage in practical initiatives in the different areas of civil and environmental engineering such as continuing collaborations with the Transportation Department of Texas, Sabine-Neches Navigation, Port of Houston, and other industry partners. It also provides a mixed program to enable learners to obtain their Bachelor of Civil Engineering Science and Master of Environmental Engineering or Environmental Studies in just under 5 years. During the senior year of undergraduate studies, there is a flexibility to start taking courses towards a master's degree. The Master of Engineering non-thesis program is designed to meet the practitioner's needs in the discipline, while the Master of Engineering Science with a thesis option program prepares students in their selected engineering disciplines to develop solutions independently.

The Phillip M. Drayer Department of Electrical Engineering Department ranks 5th in the US for engineering in terms of return on investment. It provides a bachelor degree program in which faculty and students operate in all fields of electrical engineering including Electronics, Computer Engineering, Telecommunications, Power & Energy, Instrumentation & Control and Robotics. The Electrical Engineering Department provides two undergraduate (Instrumentation & Control) and graduate (Power & Energy) certificate programs. The department also provides three graduate degrees: Master of Engineering, Master of Engineering Science, and Doctor of Engineering. With the exception of the Masters of Engineering degree, the graduate degrees require each student to pursue research in an area of their choice. Computer Engineering; Power & Energy; Robotics, Instrumentation & Control are the specialization tracks offered in the master’s level courses. In addition, the Power & Energy Certificate is intended to cover industry needs including the design and execution of electrical devices and power electronic drives, power generation unit dynamics control, energy system tracking and security, energy system modeling and intelligent grid concept. The department provides a bachelor's degree in science along with multiple master's degrees and a doctoral degree in engineering.
