Lamar University was founded in 1923 with just 125 students on board. The university has developed a lot since its existence in terms of education and number of students as well. It showed great growth during 1950-1960 in terms of admissions and infrastructure. Lamar University came under the Texas State University System in 1995 which again lead to the growth of the university in terms of financial aid and comfortable campus life.

Infrastructure 

Lamar University is home to more than 2,500 students who live inside the premises of the campus with furnished residence halls, living areas, and recreational sports center. The huge campus of Lamar University is comprised of eight-storey Mary and John Gray Library and Provost Umphrey Stadium that can seat up to 16,000 students. Students can also visit the Dishman Art Museum which is within the campus and offers an opportunity to the students to experience the various styles of art and also they get a chance to exhibit their own work.

The residential life within the campus for the students is cost-effective and safe. The students get an opportunity to attend various campus events and access faculty easily for academic assistance. There are well-equipped resident halls, which are safe and can be only accessed by an individual ID card. The Beaumont 292-acre campus is approximately 90 miles east of Houston and approximately 25 miles west of Louisiana.

    Jack Brooks Regional Airport (BPT/ KBPT) is the nearest main airport to Lamar University. This airport is located in Beaumont, Texas, 8 miles from Lamar University's core. The university campus can be readily accessed from the airport via multiple buses, night buses, rental cars, town vehicles, and shuttle services.

    The University also has its own shuttle service which during a periodic semester works seven days a week. The shuttle offers daily transportation within a two-mile radius for learners and offers weekend trips to Wal-Mart. Students are taken to multiple places such as halls of residence, apartments, and shopping malls.
