Which is the Cheapest Education Loan in India? | GyanDhan

Updated on: 14 Apr 2021 The cost of higher education, whether in India or abroad, has been on a consistent rise in the last few years. And this trend is mirrored across institutions not just in India but abroad too. As such, a rising proportion of students in India are facing a financial crunch when it comes to funding their higher education. For all such students, an education loan has come as a blessing in disguise. Not only does it help them make their higher education dream in India and abroad a reality, but if chosen wisely even helps them with other things such as get tax benefits, build a good credit score and even keep family and personal funds safe for exigencies. But the market is flooded with numerous different kinds of education loan schemes - all with different fine prints that if missed might land the student in a soup. In such a scenario, most students wonder about which education loan to choose and also which is the cheapest education loan scheme in India. In this blog, we will talk about the cheapest education loan in India that a student can apply for. So, without further ado, let us begin right away. Which is the cheapest education loan in India? Well, education loans from public sector banks are cheaper than education loans from private sector banks or NBFCs. But why is that so? Let us take a look at some of the reasons for this. Rate of Interest - The rate of interest of an education loan offered by public sector banks is always lower - by 1% to 2.5% - than that offered by private sector banks and NBFCs. The rate of interest for an education loan by a public sector bank is between 8.5% to 10.5% while it is between 10.5% to 13.5% for a private sector bank. For NBFCs, the rate of interest is still higher and is between 11% to 14.5%. One reason why the rate of interest on education loans by NBFCs is highest is that banks use funds that are deposited with them to give loans while NBFCs borrow money from investors, banks, and other financial institutions and then lend it to students. Processing fee - The processing fee charged by public sector banks is lower than NBFCs and sometimes even lower than private banks. Most public sector banks have a low processing fee and sometimes even have zero processing fee for an education loan. While SBI has a fixed fee of INR 10,0000 (non-refundable) for an education loan of INR 40 lakhs, both Bank of Baroda and Axis Bank have a refundable processing fee of INR 10,000. However, NBFCs would charge a non-refundable processing fee between INR 40,000 and 80000 for the same loan amount. Looking for an abroad education loan? Fill the form and get free assistance Among public sector banks, which is the cheapest education loan scheme? Well, now that it is clear that education loans from public sector banks are the cheapest, let us dig deeper and find out which education loan scheme among public sector banks is the cheapest. We carefully researched all the various public bank education loan schemes and have come to the following conclusion: Bank of Baroda education loan schemes - Bank of Baroda education loan schemes are amongst the cheapest schemes in India. Let us take a look at the interest rates offered by the scheme under different scenarios- Baroda Education Loan to Students of Premier Institutions (For Studies in India) is the cheapest education loan in India. If your institute is included in the premiere AA or A list of institutions, then you can get an education loan at a rate of interest of 6.75% and if your institution falls under List B, then you can get an education loan of up to INR 7.5 Lakhs at a rate of interest of 7.85%. For institutions falling under List B, education loans above INR 7.5 lakhs are given at an interest rate of 7.6%. Students who have got admission to institutions under List C will get an education loan of up to INR 7.50 lakhs at an interest of 8.6% while those who seek an education loan above INR 7.5 lakhs for studying in institutions in List C will get the loan at an interest of 8.35%. Students who are heading abroad for higher education can apply for the Baroda Scholar (for studies abroad) education loan scheme. Under this scheme, students who have got admission to an institute under the list of Premier Institutions can get an education loan at a rate of interest of 8.25% while those who have got admission to a college that does not come under the list of Premier Institutions will get the education loan at 8.9% Rate of Interest. SBI education loan schemes - If your institution does not come under the list of institutions in the list of Bank of Baroda, then SBI education loan schemes are your next cheapest education loan option. Students can apply for the Student Loan Scheme or the Global Ed-vantage Education Loan offered by SBI and take the SBI Rinn Raksha policy. By taking the Rinn Raksha policy, the rate of interest in their education loan will decrease by 0.5%. To know more about the SBI Rinn Raksha scheme, you can read it here. Under the Global Ed-vantage Education Loan or the Student Loan Scheme, students can take the Rinn Raksha Scheme and get the loan at a rate of interest of 8.8%. Girls can get a further concession of .5% on the rate of interest. Still, boggled by the various nitty-gritty that comes hidden with an education loan scheme? Well, help is at hand in the form of GyanDhan, India’s first education financing platform. We are committed to helping our students get the best education loan scheme and make their higher education dream a reality. 4 IMPORTANT QUESTIONS ABOUT BIDEN’S STUDENT LOAN FORGIVENESS-A REVIEW
## **THROUGH EXECUTIVE ACTION, CAN BIDEN FORGIVE STUDENT LOANS?** Biden spoke support for the forgiveness of student loans. But, he opposed the call for the president to withdraw student debts. Many student loan legal specialists claim, that Biden has the right to use administrative authority to develop extensive student loan reconciliations. Supporters point out that the Higher Education Act provisions passed by the Minister of Education. He believes that, the president has broad powers to “change, compromise, give up or issue student loans”. Several consumer protection organizations and the House of Representatives (including Senator Elizabeth Warren) claim that using this kind of enforcement power to cancel student loan debts is legally adequate. Other supporters point to the “Heroes Act”. Which authorizes the president to act in response to an enduring pandemic. That is the starting point for President Trump’s previous administration to postpone interest and payment on federal student loans owned by the government. However, an attorney from the Ministry of Education, led by former secretary DeVos, came to the opposite assumption that the extensive reconciliation of student loans went far further than what Congress planned when the law on higher education and student loans was first passed. ## **WHO WOULD BE ELIGIBLE, IF [BIDEN FORGIVES STUDENT LOANS](https://studentloanforgivenessapplication.com/joe-biden-student-loan-programs/)?** Biden has never announced public backing to withdraw all $1.7 trillion in outstanding student loan debt. If the government decides that the president can allow student loans through his actions, does it impose restrictions or eligibility criteria? There are several ways to limit student loan forgiveness. The most noticeable technique is the allowable amount of student loan debt. The student loan borrower requested cancellation of [Student Loan forgiveness](https://studentloanforgivenessapplication.com/) exceeding $50,000. However, Biden has always insisted on reducing the “target” amount of student loan subsidies, significantly $10,000. Biden said in December that it was “unlikely” to cancel or forgive the $50,000 student loan. Similar to eligibility for stimulus control, entitlement can also be restricted to borrowers based on income. Senate leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) had recommended that student loan repayments can be restricted to borrowers with annual incomes of less than $150,000 previously. The type of student loan in question may also be appropriate. For example, the Higher Education Act does not cover private student loans, so written student loan repayments may be limited to federal student loans. ## **IF BIDEN DECIDES HE CANNOT CANCEL STUDENT DEBT VIA EXECUTIVE ACTION, WHAT HAPPENS?** Biden said that his favorite way to obtain student loan assistance is to allow Congress to pass the student loan forgiveness law. Given that the democratic majority in the House of Representatives and the Senate are currently narrow. And leaders have little room for error, this radical student loan reform may be a difficult road. Without Republican support, Republican senators may interfere with such law in the Senate. Additionally, the government’s current focus is on Biden’s extensive infrastructure plans, which may take months to complete. For these excuses, supporters of student loan borrowers claim that administrative actions are the best way to issue student loan forgiveness. However, if the Biden administration decides to take forceful action to cancel student loans is unsustainable, then nothing will be lost. Through legislation, Congress will be under increasing pressure to take action. ## **WHEN WILL WE GET AN ANSWER ON BIDEN’S STUDENT LOAN FORGIVENESS ANALYSIS?** The Biden administration does not have a statutory timetable for statutory review of student loan repayments. The White House Chief of Staff advised last week that the analysis could take several weeks. However, after the current extension of the ban on most [federal student loan](https://studentloanforgivenessapplication.com/fed-loans/) payments and interest ends, the government can respond before September 30, a safe choice. Can I Take an Education Loan on Agricultural Land? | GyanDhan

Updated on: 09 Apr 2021 In India, higher education is seen as a passport to a well-settled career. But, with the cost of education inflation currently pegged at 10%, it is no wonder that higher education is becoming a pricey affair and many students have to give up their dreams of higher studies. At such times, an education loan is a blessing for students who need financial help to pursue their higher education dream. It makes higher education and the associated study costs within reach of all such students. Introduced by SBI in 1995, an education loan is not only beneficial for students who are unable to finance their higher education but also for those who want to keep their savings safe for personal contingencies, get tax benefits, and build a good Credit score. It is no wonder then that education loan firms have disbursed INR 11,000 crores in education loans during the 12 months ending September 2020. However, many times education loan seekers have numerous doubts regarding the policies that guide education loan sanction. Among all the various queries, one of the top ones that we often get is whether a student can take an education loan on agricultural land. In this blog, we will try to answer this question and help make things clear for all such students. Can I take a secured education loan on agricultural land? Well, theoretically the answer to this question is, Yes. But on digging a little deeper we realize that this is not possible practically. Even though the RBI has suggested that banks sanction education loans to farmers and their children, the reality is quite different. When we look at the terms and conditions for sanctioning a secured education loan, we realize that all public banks, private banks, and NBFCs have mentioned that agricultural land is not accepted as collateral for an education loan. Even though the reasons for this are not very clear, one possible reason for this could be the fact that agricultural land cannot be used to raise security in case the education loan becomes a Non-Performing Asset. The very purpose of collateral is to be a means of recovering the loan money in case the borrower defaults on the loan and this would not be the case with agricultural land, thus beating the very purpose of asking for collateral. Need an education loan to study abroad? Fill in the form to get free assistance What is the next best option? Now that we know that it is not practically possible to get a secured education loan on agricultural land, let us look at alternate ways in which a student can get a secured education loan. Find another immovable collateral that can be attached with your loan application - Lenders accept many different kinds of tangible collateral for sanctioning an education loan such as any flat, house, plot with boundary, shop, etc. In case a borrower does not have the property in his/her name, they can also attach third-party collateral for their education loan, provided the owner agrees to mortgage the property on behalf of the student. Attach any movable collateral with your education loan - A student can also pledge intangible assets such as Fixed Deposits, Government Bonds, Mutual Funds, National Savings Certificates, Life Insurance Policies, etc. The assets could be in the name of the student or even a relative. Pledge gold ornaments - Students can also mortgage gold ornaments for their education loan. It should be noted here that the value of the collateral being pledged must be equal to or higher than the loan amount being applied for. Hence, a borrower can pledge any one of the above collateral or even attach more than one in case the value of one collateral is less than the loan amount being requested. What should you do in case you cannot pledge collateral? If a student is unable to arrange any of the above-mentioned collateral, even then there is hope for them in the form of unsecured education loans. Most lenders provide unsecured loans to deserving students. Some like private banks and NBFCs even raise their upper loan limit for an unsecured education loan for meritorious students. Still confused with the various lenders and education loan schemes and looking for help with an education loan? Well, get in touch with GyanDhan - India’s first education financing platform, and get all your education loan queries resolved from experts. GyanDhan is the highest-rated study abroad financing marketplace in India and is known for our doorstep service, quick and higher loan approvals and for helping our students get the best deals on education loans.
