In addition, it is possible for a student to complete a program leading to two MS degrees, for example, Mechanical Engineering and Aerospace Engineering degrees, or an Aerospace Engineering degree plus any other major from the engineering department. The Department also offers a Ph.D. degree in Aerospace Engineering. Students who already have a Master’s degree and are highly interested in research can pursue their Ph.D. degree by entering the Ph.D. program. Students with an outstanding academic record in the undergraduate years and a high level of interest in research can pursue their Ph.D. degree by directly entering the Ph.D. program. All students applying for the Doctorate program must have completed their GRE. Prestigious organizations such as NASA and Lockheed Martin have employed students from this department.
For Mechanical Engineering, the department offers a four-year B.S in Mechanical Engineering. (BSME). Students are offered to choose from two tracks to complete their BS. One is the Professional Practice track which gives students more exposure to business practices, communication. The other is Science and Mathematics track which is more technical in nature and suitable for students who wish to go into graduate school and academia.
The University at Buffalo School of Engineering and Applied Sciences and the School of Management offer a five-year BS/MBA program leading to a combined Bachelor’s degree/Master’s degree in Business Administration. Students willing to pursue the joint-degree program should take the GMAT and apply to the MBA program early during their third year.
The M.S in Mechanical Engineering (MSME) is a graduate programme offered by the department. This course can be completed in 3-4 semesters (one and a half to two years). There are three options available - thesis,  project, all-course.
