Concordia University

Concordia University is located in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. It was founded in 1974. The university prides itself over being the next-generation university as it constantly works towards providing students with the right balance between current learning opportunities and preparing them for the challenges of tomorrow. The university's emphasis is on taking up transformation projects that revolve around the latest innovations in technology and how these can be made accessible to students. It also focuses on creating indigenous spaces for students to exchange research ideas.

 

It hosts seminars and offers an array of non-credit courses which cater to students’ interests outside of the academic curriculum.

The university has two campuses, namely: Sir George Williams Campus and  Loyola Campus. 

The university offers 45 major and minor degrees in the fields of Arts, Science and Management, two after-degree programs, three master's degrees, and several graduate certificates and diplomas. 

It is funded by tuition money and private donations but also receives some funding from the Government of Alberta.

Concordia University accommodates an approximate of 46,000 students and 2,300 full-time and part-time professors and nurtures a culture for research.

The university library has a team of 120 librarians, support staff, and professionals. It also has an art gallery known as the Leonard and Bina Ellen Gallery which consists of 1,700 paintings, sculptures, prints, photographs and videos, and numerous works by latest Candian artists.

The university also provides assistance for those looking to live off-campus through the Concordia Student Union's Off-Campus Housing and Job Bank (HoJo) which gives the students legal advice and safety resources regarding accommodation.

The Grey Nuns Residence only provides individual rooms with the options of attached washrooms along with other utilities. The cost for on-campus residence including meal plan falls between $3,870 and $7,320, wherein the cost of the rooms vary depending upon the floor plan, while those who wish to live off-campus can expect the living costs to be around $12,400 including rent, food and miscellaneous expenses. 

The university gives out sundry scholarships, bursaries, and awards to both undergraduate and graduate students. For graduate students, funding packages are awarded at the time of admissions such as the Concordia University Doctoral Graduate Fellowship which is valued at $14,000 per year for 4 years, Concordia International Tuition Award of Excellence valued at $37,915, and Concordia Merit Scholarship valued at $10,000.

Sir George Williams Campus is situated in Downtown Montreal in the region Quartier Concordia. There are a number of affordable transportation facilities that are available on the campus such as the Concordia Shuttle Bus which stops at  Henry F. Hall Building at the Sir  Geroge  Williams campus and in front of the Loyola Chapel.

Those who wish to take the metro can access the Société de transport de Montréal (Montreal Transportation Company) to get around Montreal as well as to the campus. The university also encourages cycling as Montreal is known to be a bike-friendly city. There is also a public bike-rental system in Montreal which is accessible 24/7. The campus also provides a large number of recreation activities from competitive badminton to shine yoga, basketball, skating, tennis, and many more.
