Introduction

Macquarie University is situated in the city of Sydney in Australia. This Public University, founded in 1964, has a strong focus on research. The main campus is located about 16 km from Sydney’s Central Business District.

McQuarrie’s Engineering department has extensive research programs in electromagnetic and antenna design, energy conversion and management, integrated wireless communication systems, nonlinear electronics, guided-wave optics and photonics, very-large-scale integration, and wireless communications and networking. The Information and Computing Sciences department works on diverse fields ranging from cybersecurity, intelligent virtual agents and malware to data mining and controlled languages. The Environmental Sciences department works on issues from tropical cyclones, toxic dust and natural hazards to Antarctic contamination and invasive species.

Residence

International students arriving in a new country are always bewildered about where to stay and what kind of accommodation is available. It is best that you contact the university and initially stay in a short stay while you get used to the country and its people. McQuarrie has a helpful website which will guide you to find the place of your choice. You have the choice to choose between a homestay – best if you want to soak in the atmosphere of the country and the way its people live. Or you could choose between sharing apartments with fellow students. If your budget is a constraint, you could look at hostels where you will get a room with shared facilities.

Location

Getting to university is very easy. The 126-hectare country-like campus is located in the heart of Sydney’s high-tech precinct. There are enough trains, trams, buses and taxis which can get you to the University with ease. The nearest international airport to the university is Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport, about 32 km away.  Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport, Newcastle Airport, Bathurst Airport and Orange Airport are the nearest domestic airports to the university.

All Postgraduate degrees are of a full- time 2-year duration. The admission requirement for a postgraduate Masters is an equivalent to an AQF level 7 bachelor's engineering – which is a four-year Engineering degree from India.
