Study Engineering at New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT)
Founded in 1881, New Jersey Institute of Technology, located in Newark, New Jersey is a public research university. Counted amongst U.S.’s leading public polytechnic universities, the University claims to prepare its students to be leaders in the “technology-dependent economy” of the 21st century. The university is known to implement a multidisciplinary curriculum along with a computing-intensive approach to educate its students.
It currently has 11,000 undergraduate and graduate students on its roll and offers abundant opportunities for interdisciplinary learning – which combines the humanities, social sciences, and economics. The six schools of the University offer 46 bachelor's program, 56 master's program, and 19 doctoral degree programs. Its Engineering school is called The Newark College of Engineering.
The University is located in the University Heights area of Newark and is built over 45 acres of land. Though the facilities offered at this University might not be as good as those offered by some other leading Universities, the well-stocked library - with over a million volumes- and the research laboratories are pretty reasonable.
Though the University offers on-campus accommodation, the facilities offered do not match the cost of living on campus. Students who choose to live on-campus have to pay $7,000 a year.
Many students choose to live off-campus and based on their location and amenities being offered to end up paying around $12,000 annually.

The University has a student-to-faculty ratio is 20 to 1 and has faculty who are widely recognized in their respective fields. The Engineering school of the University has 162 full-time faculties on staff.
Though the University has a high acceptance rate, it is quite strict when offering financial aid – which is reserved only for students having a great profile. So, students with an average or above-average profile, desirous of studying at NJIT Newark, should look at alternate options for financial aid.

Though NJIT has a high acceptance rate, we would advise students with a good profile to apply elsewhere. However, NJIT is an option for those with a below average profile.
New Jersey Institute of Technology is located at the centre of Newark which is only eight miles from New York City and twenty minutes from Manhattan through train. It is accessible by bus, light rail, rail and flight. Buses are available from NJ Transit Bus Lines: 28, 37, 62, 67, 107, while trains are available from Newark Liberty International Airport to Newark Penn Station. Those who wish to travel by flight can either catch a train or a taxi directly to the campus from the airport. A shuttle bus service is available which is shared among the two campuses and operated by Rutgers-Newark. The bus service is free for the students who just have to display their NJIT ID card to avail the services. It also offers a handicapped-accessible van for a tour throughout the campus.
The college has on-campus residence services in the form of five residence halls as well as off-campus housing centres and options in nearby towns such as Harrison, Kearny, Fairmount and East Orange. There are also a variety of dining choices available including Gourmet food, fast food, cafes, restaurants, pubs and even grease trucks stationed around the campus.
Newark houses a number of attractive places to visit for entertainment, shopping and leisure such as the art wall at Fairmount Switching Station, Newark's Riverfront Park, Ferry Street in the Ironbound District that has some of the best barbecue restaurants and local jewellery boutiques.

Chemical and Material
The Otto H. York Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering at New Jersey Institute of Technology creates an engaging space for students to carry out extensive studies in the areas of Advanced Materials, Biotechnology, Environment, Energy and Nanotechnology. This is made effective through the department’s two research centers. The Department offers BS, MS, and Ph.D. programs.
The MS in Chemical Engineering requires a minimum of thirty credit hours wherein students must receive a GPA of up to 3.0 in core courses and an overall CGPA of 3.0. It is divided into three choices: Coursework, Research-based support, and Master’s thesis. The core courses include Thermodynamics, Kinetics of Reactions and Reactor Design, and Mathematical Methods in Chemical Engineering with a varying number of open electives in the areas of Engineering, Science, or Mathematics and any area of research at the student’s discretion depending upon the three options. Those pursuing Research-based support and Master’s thesis must consult with three faculty members and receive their signatures with regards to their thesis topic and preference of advisor on the form given by the department. MS in Materials Science and Engineering is a thirty credit hours course along with electives with the thesis being optional. MS in Pharmaceutical Engineering is a thirty-hour course which requires the student to retain a CGPA of 3.0 throughout the duration of their course. It is mandatory for full-time students to complete a Master’s thesis, while part-time students are encouraged to pursue it. The course consists of five common core courses as well as fifteen credits of open electives.

The John A. Reif, Jr. Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering at NJIT boasts of an all-round development program by offering BS, MS, and Ph.D. programs in the multiple disciplines of civil engineering and environmental engineering. The mission of the department is to provide an in-depth study of the forms and structures of technology and sustainability. MS in Civil Engineering is a thirty credit hours course that can be qualified through two ways, i.e., campus or online for those who are interested in academics while being employed. MS in Environmental Engineering aims at preparing students to work closely with the faculty to seek new ways to research on and resolve environmental challenges through science. The core courses include Physical Processes in Environmental Systems, Environmental Microbiology, and Water Chemistry. The students are required to complete a total of six electives in two sections of Concentration in Water Quality, Treatment and Infrastructure and Concentration in Integrated Site Remediation, three from each. The course also offers a bridge program and a wide option of career prospects. MS in Critical Infrastructure Systems understands the essential need for producing reliable infrastructure that is resilient to calamity and various hazards thereby giving rise to graduates who excel not only in innovation but also prevention and detection. Some of the core courses are Critical Infrastructure I: Performance and Risk Analysis of Infrastructure Systems, Critical Infrastructure II: Security Management of Critical Infrastructure, Management Science and Elements of Infrastructure Planning. Electrical and Computer
Helen and John C. Hartmann Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at NJIT encourages the students to step outside theoretical framework and engage with the challenges that exist and are emerging in the 21st century. The department takes pride in its metropolitan location which provides easy access to students in terms of internships and special projects in leading laboratories and research centres in and around the New York City-New Jersey area. It offers BS, MS and PhD programs in Electrical and Computer Engineering along with a handful of fellowships and projects for undergraduate and PhD students. MS in Computer Engineering is a thirty credit hours course out of which twenty-one or more should be from courses in ECE. The requirements for the completion of the degree includes two computer engineering core courses, a minimum of two courses from one of the five areas of specialization and some extra courses. The student must attain a CGPA of 3.0 excluding the thesis or project. It is optional to undertake Master's Project or Master's Thesis. There are also bridge courses for students applying from undergraduate disciplines other than computer engineering. MS in Electrical Engineering has four-track courses, namely, Communication, Signal Processing and Microwave Track, Computer Networking Track, Computer Architecture and Systems Track, Electronic and Photonic Devices Track and Intelligent Systems Track out of which students are required to choose two core courses and two-track courses. It also gives the option of acquiring the program degree online, however, the curriculum differs from that of the campus-based. MS in Internet Engineering is a thirty credit hours course with nine hours for core courses and twenty-one for electives.MS in Telecommunications requires a minimum of thirty credit hours of coursework and a GPA of 3.0 in four core courses for graduation. M.S. in Power and Energy Systems has two core courses, two concentration area requirements and three to five electives that should be chosen out of the pool by the students. A thesis or a project is optional alongside the coursework, and certain bridge courses may also be necessary for students applying from different academic backgrounds.

Mechanical and Industrial
The Department of Mechanical & Industrial Engineering at NJIT provides students with the opportunity to narrow down their focus on what interests them in electrical and electronic, chemical, civil, and mechanical arenas. The department offers BS, MS, and Ph.D. degrees. MS in Mechanical Engineering is a thirty credit hours course wherein students must contribute an extensive twelve to fifteen credit hours to areas of concentration and Mechanical Engineering Colloquium for two semesters. Students are also encouraged to undertake a thesis or a project depending upon their interests.
M.S. in Industrial Engineering is a thirty credit hours course out of which twelve credit hours are for core courses in Advanced Engineering Statistics, Engineering Cost and Production Economics, Systems Analysis and Simulation, Advanced Topics in Operations Research. It also offers a twelve credit hour graduate certificate in Operations Productivity to gain a better grasp of the program. It can also be applied for online.
Other courses offered by the department are MS in Manufacturing Systems, MS in Healthcare Management Systems, and MS in Engineering Management.
