    The Chemical Engineering Department taps on the core disciplines of chemistry, physics, biology, and mathematics to convert raw materials or chemicals into more valuable forms in procedures involving chemical change. Examples include composites of nanoscale, pharmaceuticals, plastics, metals, fibers, and ceramics. Key applications include developing alternative energy systems, biomedical equipment and therapies, and strategies to minimize the effect of technological advances on the environment.

    RIT provides undergraduate and graduate degrees in Chemical Engineering that provide learners with a strong and practical understanding of the principles of engineering and the fundamental science connected with traditional apps. A BS degree in chemical engineering plus two accelerated dual degree choices allow learners to receive a BS and an MS in about five years. BS in Chemical Engineering/MS in Science, Technology, and Public Policy and a BS in Chemical Engineering/MS in Materials Science and Engineering are the two accelerated dual-degree choices.

    The department also provides its graduate students with a doctoral degree program which considerably contributes to advances in the food industry, alternative energy technologies, production of semiconductors, and environmental modeling and remediation.
