Frequently Asked Questions
Unfortunately, the department does not have the means to provide applicant pre-screening. It is suggested that you contact the advising staff at your undergraduate university for an assessment of your current academic record and recommendations on where to apply for graduate school. Texas examines your undergraduate record, any undergraduate research experience, letters of recommendation, and personal statement in making admission decisions.
No, students are only considered for the degree for which they applied, and they are only allowed to apply to one degree every semester.
Though the university encourages that you submit your letters of reference through the AIS system, it will accept letters of recommendation delivered to its department by email to [email protected] on official letterhead from the recommender.
Faculty who advised you on research projects and taught your most advanced computing courses are the best sources of letters of recommendation. The University particularly is interested in evaluations of your research potential and intellectual competence, as well as your rank and performance in the courses they taught. If you don't have enough letters from current or former instructors, you can also add letters from employers. However, you should be aware that such a letter will not be given the same weight as letters from your instructors in the majority of circumstances.
Yes. You must submit unofficial or official transcripts from each post-secondary (college or university) institution you have attended. Official transcripts must be submitted to the Texas A&M Admissions office.
