Founded in 1817, the University of Michigan is a public research university. It is not only famous in the country for its research work but also has one of the biggest research expenditures in the entire country. The University of Michigan offers various programs through schools such as the College of Engineering, the Stephen M. Ross School of Business, the Medical School, the School of Nursing, the Law School, and the School of Education. The University offers degrees in STEM fields, architecture, medicine, business, law, nursing, pharmacy, public health, social work, and dentistry. Its engineering schools offer masters, doctoral and interdisciplinary programs.
It is quite difficult to get accepted to this University as it is one of the higher-ranking universities in the States.
The University is located in Arbor Ann, which is a 45-minute drive from Michigan. The campus is spread over 712 acres and is separated into Central, North, South and Medical campuses. Engineering students will go to the North campus which consists of houses as well as a library that has more than 4 million volumes.
The University offers on-campus accommodation to its students and nearly 75 percent of the students prefer to live on-campus. It has three large residence halls for undergraduates and family housing for graduates. Off-campus housing options include accommodation in areas like Central and South campus.
Faculty and pedagogy:
The University of Michigan is a name to reckon with, globally, in any field of education. As such, its faculty is top-notch. A number of professors from the University are Nobel laureates as well as winners of many academic prizes and thus students will learn from the best in the field. Though most of the professors are busy with research, interested students who take the initiative will always find a helping hand from these professors.
The University does offer a number of scholarships and freeships. However, there is stiff competition amongst students to receive them and thus you have to prove your worthiness in order to get one of these. Students can also apply for Teaching or Research Assistantships at the University.

The Department of Aerospace Engineering (College of Engineering) at Michigan (U-M) prides itself on being the first department to have taught the Aeronautics program in the US in 1914. Ever since, it has been at the heart of the USA's aeronautical prowess, playing a significant part in various missions. Undergraduate students opting for Aerospace majors are awarded a BSE degree and another bachelor's degree often being in a related field such as mechanical engineering. The department offers MSE to engineering bachelors. Another sought after program is the MEng in Space Engineering which is the perfect combination of theoretical and practical learning. As the course seeks to provide interdisciplinary education in scientific, management, and engineering dimensions of space systems, it helps students to refine their disciplinary skills and familiarizes them with systems education and management fields. Biomedical is one of the largest BME graduate programs in the U.S. The department has awarded more graduate degrees than any other BME department in the country. The University of Michigan is one of the only universities in the country with top-ranked engineering, medical, and business schools on the same campus. A $20 million research endowment was sown by The Wallace H. Coulter Foundation (Coulter Translational Research Program).
