Founded in 1817, the University of Michigan is a public research university. It is not only famous in the country for its research work but also has one of the biggest research expenditures in the entire country. The University of Michigan offers various programs through schools such as the College of Engineering, the Stephen M.     The University of Michigan is older than the state itself. Today it comprises three campuses and a center. The oldest campus is at Ann Arbor constituted of Central, North, Medical, and Athletic Campuses, while the regional centers are at Dearborn and Flint. The University of Michigan Detroit Center is in the Midtown area of Detroit. 

    The North Campus at Ann Arbor is separated from the rest by the Huron River. The UM-Ann Arbor is surrounded by hills and valleys adjoining the Huron River. Agricultural and horticultural lands ornament the surroundings of campuses. The university is situated about 60 km west of state capital Detroit and is easily accessible by road, rail, or air.
