Eligibility & Documents Required for Admission

Before a student can be accepted, he or she must meet the basic entrance standards. In order to meet these requirements, an applicant must:

  • Have a bachelor's degree with a satisfactory grade-point average;
  • Have an acceptable and current score on the Graduate Record Examination or the Graduate Management Admission Test, as specified by the department or programme to which application is being made
  • Demonstrate potential for graduate work in the department or programme to which application is being made.
  • Be accepted by the department in which a degree is sought for admission. There are certain programs which want students to satisfactorily complete a background check review and submit it considering it as an important condition of admission.

TOEFL, IELTS, and Duolingo are all accepted by UTA. If English is not your first language, you must show that you have a sufficient command of the language in order to succeed in graduate school. Unless you have a bachelor's or master's degree from an approved U.S. university, you must submit official test score reports directly from the testing agency.

An official test score record sent directly from the testing agency must be submitted.

Some graduate programmes may set application or consideration deadlines for graduate assistantship applicants that are sooner than Graduate Admissions' normal deadlines. These deadlines will be listed in each department's description of admission requirements. Applicants should thoroughly read the materials and submit their applications before the departmental deadline. Applicants should adhere to the Graduate Admissions dates outlined above if the department does not designate a deadline.

Admission Dates & Process

Priority Dates for Graduate Applications:

  • Summer: February 15
  • Fall: March 15
  • Spring: August 15

Some graduate programmes may have application priority dates that are earlier. The institution urges interested individuals to research their desired programme and apply by the program's application deadline. Applications are still accepted after the priority deadlines for each term, but you must submit your application and supporting papers by the priority dates to be considered for admission. To be eligible for program-specific financing opportunities such as assistantships and fellowships, you must apply far ahead of your desired start date.
