Study Engineering at University of Texas Dallas
The University of Texas, which was started in 1969, is currently a Tier 1 public research university. It is one of the many Universities under the University of Texas System and though it is relatively new, it has been able to establish itself as one of the best universities for engineering and management.
According to Times Higher Education Young University rankings, UT Dallas ranks first in the United States and number 21 in the world. The University offers various degrees through schools such as The Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science and the Naveen Jindal School of Management.
The 710-acre UTD campus is located in Richardson, which is 20 km from downtown Dallas. The campus has modern green infrastructure along with state-of-the-art research facilities in different areas of engineering, management, and sciences.
UTD offers on-campus living facilities to its students and charges approximately $5500 annually for it. Students can also go for off-campus housing – which offers greater space, freedom, and privacy. The average annual rent in areas of Richardson is $7500 a year and students can share an apartment and thus reduce their overheads.

The Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science under the University of Texas at Dallas provides BS, MS and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science offering intensive preparation in design programming, theory, and application. The BS graduate program is a non-thesis theory course. The BS degree requires 2 semesters of calculus and 1 semester of linear algebra along with a strong foundation in programming to qualify for the MS course. The MS program with a large faculty of qualified professors has a thesis and non-thesis course options. The thesis plan requires a minimum of 27 semester credit hours of courses and completion of an approved thesis directed by a supervising professor (6 semester hours). Electrical and Computer Engineering
The Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science under the University of Texas at Dallas provides MS and Ph.D. options in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering and Telecommunications Engineering. BS options are only available in Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering.
The BS graduate course is a non-thesis graduate program. The MSEE (Master of Science in Electrical Engineering) course has thesis and non-thesis options. The course requires 33 semester hours and provides 5 major study areas -
- Computing Systems
- Power Electronics and Energy Systems and
- Signals and Systems.
Each concentration is defined by 3 core courses. For each major course, students need to complete 3 core courses and 8 elective courses (6 courses from electrical engineering and 2 offered by the Erik Jonsson school). The thesis option requires 9 semester hours of research (of which at least 3 must be thesis semester credit hours) along with a dissertation. The PhD program has 9 research areas:

There are 5 other laboratories catering to research in nanoelectronics and optical communications.

The BS graduate program is a 4-year non-thesis course. The MS program requires the completion of a minimum of 33 semester hours and a grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.0. Students must take a total of 4 core courses (12 semester hours) from the major concentration areas of

3 electives should be chosen (9 semester hours) from the major areas. The PhD program requires a minimum of 78 semester hours out of which 12 hours to be spent on 4 core courses (same as those of MS) and 12 hours for elective courses (4 courses), 2 courses for mathematics elective ( 6 semester hours) and completion of a thesis from the 4 major areas (minimum 30 semester hours) along with a dissertation (minimum 6 semester hours).
