A public University, Wichita State University was founded in 1895. It is one of the three research institutions in the region of Kansas. It offers 60 undergraduate degrees, 44 Master degrees, and a few doctoral degrees too through schools such as College of Engineering, College of Education, Fairmount College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, College of Health Professions, College of Fine Arts, W. Frank Barton School of Business and Graduate School.
The main campus of the University is located in Wichita and is spread over 330 acres. The campus is beautiful and has every conceivable facility that a student might need. The Museum of arts is located in the main campus, which also houses several research centers such as National Institute for Aviation Research, the WSU Field Station, biology research labs, chemistry research labs, and physics research labs. The campus is also dotted with many libraries that hold more than 2 million volumes. The University also has two satellite campuses, called The South Campus and The West Campus.
Wichita State University offers on-campus accommodation to its students and has dormitories for this purpose. The newer dormitories, though a bit expensive, are popular amongst those staying on-campus. Many students also prefer off-campus housing too.
Faculty and pedagogy:
The faculty at Wichita State University is good, especially for the School of Engineering. The faculty for the Aerospace Engineering program is especially the best and most professors are helping and accommodating. The student-faculty ratio here is 20:1.
The Master’s program here is especially good for those planning to pursue a career in research as the entire Master’s programs are more research-oriented than most other masters programs at other places.
Being a public University, Wichita State University offers students various scholarships and grants. In fact, reports say that 59% of full-time undergraduates at WSU received some kind of need-based financial aid.

Wichita State University has an enrollment of around 15,000 students. WSU is considered amongst Tier 2 colleges in the United States. Having said that, the decent research facilities and the low fees here make it a good option for students who have not been able to get admission in a Tier 1 college.
The Wichita State University stands at the centre of midwest in the city of Wichita, Kansas, spreading at a generous 330 acres. One can have easy access to the campus through the WSU shuttle system. The 3 shuttle routes are the Metroplex Route, the Innovation Campus Route, and the Campus Route. The travel to the campus is made more convenient by shuttle bus services as they stop at each pick-up point in every eight to ten minutes. The buses start as early as 7:30 am from Tall Oaks apartment complex at Oliver and are available until they leave the Hubbard Hall for the day at 9:50 pm.The closest airport to the university is Wichita Dwight D. Eisenhower (ICT) Airport which is 8.5 miles away. Those who wish to travel by rail can take the train from Kansas City Union Station to Newton Amtrak Station which takes about 4 hours and 25 minutes after which the taxi will take 26 minutes to reach the campus.
WSU offers on-campus accommodation which consists of three options: Shocker Hall, The Flats, and The Suites. Shocker Hall is primarily for the first years and offers them different forms of room styles like private and shared rooms. The flat option ranges from one, two, three to four BHK apartments that are fully furnished and located at the Innovation Campus, while The Suites is the latest addition to the housing facility which opens in fall 2019 meant for both freshmen as well as upperclassmen. The city also has a handful of apartments located within a walking distance from the university for those interested in living off-campus.
The university also offers dining options within the university, however, the students may also find appealing choices for food outside the campus. There are also a couple of places for student’s leisure and entertainment such as Ulrich Museum of Art, Pizza Hut Museum, Botanica: The Wichita Gardens, and Mort's Cigar Bar to name a few.

Wichita State University’s Aerospace Engineering Department holds immense cultural importance as it is one of the oldest departments in the nation and is located in the ‘Air Capital of the World.’ The department is one of the finest in Aerospace Engineering which brings the best to the students by allowing them to train both locally and at a higher level through programs such as NASA programs to promote experiential learning. It has gained expertise in both aircraft as well as spacecraft manufacturing and research. It offers BS, MS, and Ph.D. in Aerospace engineering. MS degree comprises of three options, namely, Thesis, Directed Project, and Non-thesis. The Thesis option has a requirement of a minimum of 24 graduate credit hours including 6 thesis hours. The Directed project includes 30 graduate credit hours for coursework alongside 3 credit hours devoted to the directed project. The non-thesis option consists of a minimum of 33 credit hours of coursework with an exit exam on core courses. The program also employs a Plan of Study which the students must complete before 12 hours of coursework. It includes a minimum of 12 credit hours in the major courses and a minimum of three credit hours in mathematics. The non-thesis exit exam is conducted three times a year and covers Aerodynamics and Fluid Mechanics, Structures and Solid Mechanics and Flight Dynamics and Control in its major courses.

Electrical Engineering and Computer Science
The Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at WSU recognizes the intricacies involved in electrical and technological advancements and works towards providing quality training to the students the objective of the department is to form a bridge between traditional lessons and contemporary ones to make students well-versed in the technological challenges faced by the society. It offers BS, Minor, MSCN, MSCS, MSECE and PhDEECS programs along with a graduate certificate option. BS in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science is a four-year program where the course sequence for Electrical Engineering includes Foundation Courses, Mathematics/Natural Sciences, Major Courses and Technical Electives. MSCS program is divided into three options, namely, the Thesis option, the Project option, and the Coursework option. It also includes three requirements which are mandatory for the students to fulfill - they must take the course on Advanced Algorithms and Analysis, have a minimum of 12 credit hours of major coursework numbering 800 or higher and finish three credit hours of major courses along with research and presentation. The students must also take twelve credit hours of open electives. MSCN has similar three options as Computer Science, however, the course requirement for students consists of a mandatory course on Data Communication Networks, one of the Advanced Algorithms and Analysis and Mathematical Foundations of Computer Networking, twelve credit hours of major coursework numbering eight hundred or higher and three credit hours on major courses with research writing and presentation. MSECE program requires students to choose a major specialization area such as Communication & Signal Processing, Computing Systems, Control Systems & Robotics, and Power & Energy System. The PhDEECS program comprises of a total of 72 credits along with a requirement to pass the qualifying exam through which the advisory committee deliberates on the student’s preparation with regards to the dissertation requirements.

Industrial, Systems, and Manufacturing Engineering Department
The Industrial, Systems, and Manufacturing Engineering Department works on making students excel in the management of systems in manufacturing, design, improvement, and research. It focuses on academics as well as teaches students to cultivate the right attitude to address career prospects in the industrial field. The Department offers BS, MS, MEM, and Ph.D. programs. The ISME has two undergraduate programs in Industrial Engineering and Product Design & Manufacturing Engineering. The MS program in Industrial Engineering revolves around three options - All Course, Directed Project, and Thesis. The Thesis option has a total of 30 credit hours out of which 24 are allotted to coursework and six hours to the thesis. Directed project option consists of 33 hours out of which thirty credit hours is for coursework and three credit hours are required for the project. All Course option requires a minimum of 33 hours for coursework along with the completion of a terminal activity. The course provides students with the following areas of concentration such as Operations Research, Systems, Production and Supply Chain Analytics, Quality and Reliability Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering and Human Systems Engineering. The Master of Engineering Management (MEM) program is designed for professionals who wish to pursue careers in management while retaining their study in engineering. The program requires the completion of 33 credit course hours out of which 60% of the hours should be courses of seven hundred or higher level. The students must select four courses from Engineering, one course from Systems, and all the courses from Management. The open electives require a minimum of eleven credit hours.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering offers BS, MS, and Ph.D. programs. The MS in ME program consists of the following options: thesis, without thesis and project options. Some of the areas of specialization in masters include Thermal/Fluid Engineering, Mechanical Systems, and Robotics/Control and Materials Science and engineering. The Ph.D. program in Mechanical Engineering is a four-year course with an emphasis on the original research area of the student. The department also houses student organizations such as Shocker Racing: Formula SAE and Mini Baja SAE and American Society for Mechanical Engineers (ASME).
