The following subjects must be completed with grades of C or better: 2 years of social science (including one year of U.S. history or U.S. history and government), 4 years of English, 3 years of mathematics (including algebra, geometry, and intermediate algebra, with four years recommended), 2 years of laboratory science (one biological and one physical science, both with labs), 2 years of foreign language (in the same language, with a waiver available for those showing equivalent competence), 1 year of visual or performing arts (art, dance, drama/theatre, or music, which can be one full-year course or two semester-long courses in the same area), and 1 year of electives (from approved courses on the UC/CSU 'a-g' list).
