Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) offers a master’s program in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology (BCB) that equips you with the skills to become a well-rounded scientist. You will gain knowledge in computer science, informatics, and statistics, as well as in life sciences.

The BCB Program provides options for graduate studies leading to B.S./M.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees. With the increasing amount of biological data from projects like the Human Genome Project, there is a high demand for experts who can work at the crossroads of biology, computer science, and mathematics.

This program is truly interdisciplinary. To earn a BCB degree, you will need to complete advanced coursework in all three fields. Our experienced faculty, along with strong partnerships with the University of Massachusetts Medical School, give students access to valuable resources for conducting innovative scientific research.

Graduation

To apply for graduate programs at WPI, you must have completed an undergraduate degree from a recognized institution. Students applying for the M.S. or Ph.D. in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology should have a bachelor's degree in biology, computer science, mathematics, or a related field. They need to have taken introductory courses in biology, computer science, and mathematics. For example, a biology graduate should also have completed courses in programming, data structures, calculus, and statistics before applying.

GRE

Marks: 150.0

There are no minimum GRE scores, but the average scores for admitted students are usually 150 in verbal, 165 in quantitative, and 3.0 in analytical writing.

TOEFL

Marks: 84.0

A score of 84 out of 120 is required for TOEFL.
