University of British Columbia – International Leader of Tomorrow Award (ILOT)

This award honors outstanding prospective international undergraduate students who have demonstrated superior academic achievement as well as exemplary leadership skills in supporting and empowering others through collaboration, empathy, and active listening.

What are the eligibility criteria for the UBC International Leader of Tomorrow Award?

To be eligible for the UBC International Leader of Tomorrow Award, applicants must fulfil the eligibility requirements:
 

• 
  You must be an international student with a Canadian study permit who will be studying in Canada.
   
• 
  You must be transferring from a recognised secondary school or entering UBC after completing your first year at a post-secondary college or other university.
   
• 
  You must have graduated from high school no more than one year before the academic year for which you are applying.
   
• 
  You must be applying for your first bachelor's degree.
   
• 
  You must have a high level of academic achievement (all As or an equivalent standard).
   
• 
  You must demonstrate financial need that would prevent you from pursuing a UBC degree otherwise. (All international students are automatically considered for the merit-based International Major Entrance Scholarships and Outstanding International Student Awards). If the scholarship amount does not cover your tuition and living expenses, you may apply for the International Scholars Programme.)
   
• 
  You must satisfy UBC's admission requirements, which include general and degree-specific requirements as well as the English Language Admission Standard.

The value of each award varies according to the applicant's financial situation and course fees. The awards are given to students who are starting their first year of undergraduate studies at UBC. A student's financial need is determined by totaling their tuition and living costs, and then subtracting the financial contribution made by them and their family to the study each year.

What is the application process for the UBC International Leader of Tomorrow Award?

The application process for the UBC International Leader award is simple and easy. 

1. Examine the International Scholars Programme application page.

2. Determine which academic programme you want to pursue and which campus you want to attend.

• Please keep in mind that the following degrees are not eligible for UBC International Scholars Programme awards: UBC Okanagan Bachelor of Nursing, Bachelor of Dental Science in Dental Hygiene, Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science, Bachelor + Master of Management, dual degrees, joint degrees with UBC Okanagan and UBC Vancouver, and joint degrees with other post-secondary institutions are all available.

3. To apply for the International Scholars Programme, you must be nominated by your school or non-profit and provide an academic referee reference.

• Confirm that your school or non-profit organisation has the authority to nominate you. Up to two students from a single high school, college, or university may be nominated for UBC Vancouver (including Vantage College) and one student for UBC Okanagan. A non-profit organisation may only nominate a high school student who is active in their organisation. This nomination will be added to the total number of nominations from a student's school.
• Inform your nominator and academic referee that you want to apply for the International Scholars Programme and let them know the deadline is November 15. Your school counsellor or equivalent should be your nominator, and your academic referee should be someone who is familiar with you and your work, such as your teacher in your chosen field of study.

4. Gather all of your necessary financial information, as well as any extracurricular activities and awards.

5. Submit an application for the International Scholars Programme by the November 15 deadline.

6. Submit your admissions application to UBC by the deadline of December 1.
