Application Process for Western Michigan University

Step One: Prepare Your Documents

• Letters of Recommendation (LOR): You need to provide three letters of recommendation.
• Curriculum Vitae (CV): A resume or CV is required.

• Personal Statement: Write a statement that includes: A summary of your experiences in academics, work, research, or creative activities, and how they make you a good candidate for graduate study in your chosen program. How your experiences match the strengths of the program and faculty, as well as your future career goals. This statement should be double-spaced and between 500 to 1500 words. It should show your writing and communication skills.
• Contact Faculty: It is encouraged to contact faculty members to discuss their research interests.
• English Language Proficiency: Provide proof of your English language skills.
• Proof of Funds: Show proof that you have enough money for your first year of study at WMU.

Step Four: Application Fees

WMU offers a payment plan for each semester. This plan lets you pay your balance in several installments. There is a convenience fee of 2.85% or $3, whichever is higher, for each credit or debit card transaction.

For the Fall and Spring semesters, you can choose a plan with four or six payments. For Summer I and Summer II, there is only one payment plan that allows you to pay in two installments for each session.

You must enroll at least one day before the first payment is due. Payment plans are available about four to five weeks before the semester starts.
