Overview

Butler University, established in 1855, is a well-known private university located in Indianapolis, Indiana. It is a non-profit institution focused on liberal arts education and is affiliated with the Council of Independent Colleges. The university has a beautiful campus of over 300 acres, featuring nearly 30 buildings, sports fields, and a nature preserve. It is only five miles from downtown Indianapolis, making it easily accessible for students and visitors alike.

At Butler University, students can choose from more than 60 different majors across six colleges. These include the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Lacy School of Business, College of Communication, College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, College of Education, and Jordan College of the Arts. The most popular fields of study are Communication, Journalism, Health Professions, Business, Management, and Marketing. Graduate programs are also available in five of the six colleges.

With a total full-time student enrollment of over 5,400 and more than 400 faculty members, Butler maintains a student-to-faculty ratio of 11:1. This allows for personalized attention and close interaction between students and faculty. Butler University offers various scholarships based on academic performance, including Talent and Merit Scholarships for first-year students. The Freshman Academic Scholarship is a notable award available to new students. Additionally, there are audition and departmental scholarships for eligible high school students.

The university is known for its student-centered approach to education, emphasizing experiential learning. Butler also has a strong athletics program with successful football and volleyball teams. Students can participate in over 160 student organizations, including 12 Greek organizations and 18 varsity athletic teams.
