California State University (CSU) requires first-time freshman applicants to finish a college preparatory study of 15 units with grades of C- or better. This includes: 2 years of social science (including 1 year of U.S. history), 4 years of English, 3 years of math (algebra, geometry, and intermediate algebra; 4 years recommended), 2 years of laboratory science (1 biological and 1 physical), 2 years of the same foreign language, 1 year of visual and performing arts, and 1 year of electives.
