The Civil Engineering program at California State University - Chico offers a balanced curriculum that covers the essential topics in civil engineering.
Students will take a variety of courses that include basic mathematics and science, as well as specialized classes in areas such as engineering mechanics, environmental engineering, soil mechanics and foundations, structural analysis and design, transportation and traffic engineering, and water resources and hydraulics. Other important topics include surveying and mapping, construction engineering and management, and urban planning and administration.
The program includes many laboratory courses, giving students hands-on experience and practical knowledge.
Throughout the curriculum, students use various computer applications to support their learning.
Students will often work on engineering design projects. They start with basic design principles and move on to more complex, real-world design challenges.
The program focuses on quality teaching, with most courses led by experienced faculty. Students actively engage in learning through labs and additional activities outside of class.
Students can specialize in different areas of Civil Engineering, including:
Environmental Engineering
Structural Engineering
Transportation Engineering
Water Resource Engineering
12th Grade
Students must have finished a university-preparatory secondary or high school program. They need a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of B, which is 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. The following subjects must be completed with grades of C or better: 2 years of Social Science (including one year of U.S. history), 4 years of English, 3 years of Mathematics (algebra, geometry, and intermediate algebra; four years are recommended), 2 years of Laboratory Science (one biological and one physical science with labs), 2 years of a Foreign Language (the same language, with possible waiver for equivalent competence), 1 year of Visual or Performing Arts (art, dance, drama/theatre, or music), and 1 year of Electives (from approved courses on the UC/CSU 'a-g' list).

2nd Installment: October for Fall / March for Spring - 1/3 of Tuition
3rd Installment: November for Fall / April for Spring - 1/3 of Tuition
Payments are due at the beginning of each month (September, October, and November for the fall semester; February, March, and April for the spring semester).
