To apply, students need to have a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, which is an average of 80% marks. Non-California residents can be considered for admission if they earn a GPA of 3.00 or higher in the 'a-g' subjects and meet other requirements set by the university. Students with a GPA between 2.47 and 2.99 may also be evaluated based on additional factors like extra courses, family income, and activities outside of school. First-time freshmen must complete 15 units of college preparatory courses with grades of 'C-' or better. These courses include: 2 years of social science (including 1 year of U.S. history), 4 years of English, 3 years of math (algebra, geometry, and intermediate algebra), 2 years of lab science (1 biological and 1 physical), 2 years of the same foreign language, 1 year of visual and performing arts, and 1 year of electives.
