The ETH Foundation's Excellence Scholarship & Opportunity Programme (ESOP) provides students with a scholarship, mentorship, and a network. During the Master's degree programme, the scholarship covers all study and living expenses.

The Excellence Scholarship/ESOP includes a scholarship for living and study expenses (INR 11,42,729 per semester) as well as a tuition fee waiver.
ESOP is granted for the duration of the Master's programme (three or four semesters). This also holds true for the tuition fee waiver.
Only ETH Bachelor students are eligible to begin the ESOP on leave.

To be considered for the scholarship, you must apply to ETH Zurich for a Master's degree programme. In addition to the documents required for Master's admission, you must submit a pre-proposal for your master's thesis. Before December 15, 2023, the scholarship application form and supporting documents must be submitted online.

In addition to the Master admission documents, you must submit a pre-proposal for your master thesis [guidelines_preproposal (PDF, 86 KB)].
The pre-proposal for the Master's thesis must be written by you and must adhere to accepted scientific citation practices.
Plagiarism, negligent or intentional misinformation, or both, will result in exclusion from the admission process or, if discovered later, revocation of admission and any scholarship.
If your study programme does not require references, you must name two (professors) as references for your ESOP application.

The Admissions Committees of the respective Master's programmes evaluate the applications. Around 60 ESOP scholarships will be assigned to students beginning in the academic year 2023/24.
The Rector of ETH Zurich makes the final decision on scholarship awards under the Excellence Scholarship & Opportunity Programme. The number of annual scholarships is determined by the availability of funds. Decisions are expected to be communicated by the end of March.
