Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships (Vanier CGS) are prominent funding options for Doctoral students in Canada. These scholarships are offered for social sciences and humanities studies, natural sciences, engineering, and health. The Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship eligibility criteria needs to be fulfilled by the applicants to apply for the scholarships:
Be a domestic or international student in Canada.
Be nominated by a Canadian institution that has a Vanier CGS quota.
About to start or currently pursuing a doctoral program.
First-class average in the last qualifying exam.
Must not receive any other scholarships from the bodies that offer Vanier CGS.
The application process for the Vanier CGS involves action from the candidate and institution, which are listed below:
Applicants must prepare, finalize, and submit applications using ResearchNet.
The institution of study must have a Vanier CGS quota. Either the student informs the department, or the department nominates the eligible students.
Applicants are nominated by an eligible institution in Canada. The officer in charge of the Vanier CGS reviews the applications in line with the allowed number of Vanier CGS for that institution and forwards them to the Vanier - Banting Secretariat.
Candidates will get an email after the institutional deadline to confirm the application has been submitted.

The applications are reviewed by the Secretariat, which recommends candidates.
The recommendations are sent to the Tri-Agency Programs (TAP) Steering Committee for approval.
The committee approves and finalizes the beneficiaries. Around 166 Vanier scholarships are granted every year.

There is no age limit for the Vanier Scholarships.
Only a moderate percentage of the total nominated applicants get 100% of the Vanier Scholarships. Many of them get eliminated in the filtering process.
The Vanier Scholarships are fully-funded and provide up to 50,000 CAD. However, there is no mention that the Vanier Scholarships would cover the expenses of dependents.
The Vanier Scholarships are available for up to 3 years.
The period of receiving the Vanier Scholarships can’t be extended.
The Vanier Scholarships are provided to study in a particular institution, and students can’t switch their nominated institution of study.
