Overview

Alabama A&M University (AAMU) is a public university located in Normal, Alabama. Founded in 1875, it began as a small school with just 61 students and 2 teachers. Over the years, it evolved into a well-respected institution focusing on agricultural and mechanical education. The university received a “Class A” rating from the Southern Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools in August 1946 and became fully accredited in December 1963.

The AAMU campus spans approximately 2002 acres and is situated within the city limits of Huntsville, Alabama. The main campus covers 200 acres and features 30 historic and modern buildings, eight female residence halls, and six male residence halls. The university promotes a vibrant student life with over 50 clubs and organizations, offering various extracurricular activities to its students. AAMU is recognized as a land grant university.

Alabama A&M University provides more than 60 undergraduate, graduate, and certificate programs. It offers an honors program for academically outstanding undergraduate students. The student-faculty ratio is 20:1, ensuring personalized attention for each student. The university is home to four colleges: the College of Agricultural, Life, and Natural Sciences; the College of Business and Public Affairs; the College of Education, Humanities & Behavioral Sciences; and the College of Engineering. In addition to academics, AAMU is involved in research through partnerships with NASA and other universities in Alabama. It is part of the National Space Science and Technology Center (NSSTC) and contributes to the Alabama Cooperative Extension System, providing educational resources to the community.
