Overview

Augusta University, founded in 1828, is a public research university located in Georgia. It is part of the University System of Georgia (USG) and is well-known for its Academic Medical Center. The university's medical school began in the early 19th century, and it was originally called the Medical Institute of Georgia. In 1867, a Scientific Department was introduced, and by 1873, it became affiliated with the Medical Department of the University of Georgia. Augusta University was the first institution to offer a fifth year for college preparation in its curriculum.

The university has four main campuses: the Health Sciences campus, Summerville campus, Forest Hills campus, and Riverfront campus.
