Overview

Delaware State University (DSU) was founded on May 15, 1891. Initially named The Delaware College for Colored Students, it was established to educate Black students under the Morrill Act of 1890. DSU holds the distinction of being the first land-grant university in the country. The university values community, integrity, diversity, scholarship, and outreach. Its motto is "Enter to Learn, Go Forth and Serve." DSU is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) and several specialized accrediting agencies.

DSU has received recognition as one of Tree Campus USA by the Arbor Day Foundation. The main campus is located in Dover, the capital of Delaware, and covers approximately 400 acres with many buildings. In addition to the main campus, there are two satellite campuses in Georgetown and Wilmington.

The university's academic structure includes the College of Agriculture, Science and Technology, the College of Business, the College of Health and Behavioral Sciences, and the College of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences. DSU offers 42 undergraduate programs in various fields including Agriculture, Aviation, Computer Science, Criminal Justice, Nursing, and more. It also provides 16 master’s degrees and five doctoral programs in areas such as Educational Leadership and Neuroscience. The university has around 5,054 students and 212 faculty members, with a student-to-faculty ratio of 15:1.
