Overview

Lincoln University of Pennsylvania, founded in 1854, is the first degree-granting Historically Black College and University (HBCU) in the United States. Originally named Ashmun Institute, it was renamed in 1866 to honor President Abraham Lincoln. The university has always welcomed students from various backgrounds, both locally and globally. Today, it offers liberal arts and science programs to a diverse group of students with different cultures, nationalities, and career interests.

The main campus is located in the beautiful countryside of southern Chester County, Pennsylvania. In its first century, Lincoln University produced about 20% of the black doctors and over 10% of the black lawyers in the country. Lincoln University has a special Visual Arts program in partnership with the Barnes Foundation, leading to a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. The university recently added a major in Pan-Africana Studies to its undergraduate offerings. With 105 full-time faculty members, 81% of whom hold terminal degrees, Lincoln maintains a favorable student-to-faculty ratio of 15:1. Additionally, 98% of undergraduate classes have 39 or fewer students, ensuring personalized attention for students.

The Office of Internship Services (OIS) aims to provide students with practical experiences related to their academic and career goals. OIS offers a variety of internship opportunities for all students at Lincoln University, guided by established norms and rules to ensure student success.

Lincoln University also offers several financial aid options, including the Pell Grant for undergraduate students, the Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant for those with financial need, and the Pennsylvania State Grant for residents enrolled full-time or part-time.

The university boasts an impressive list of alumni, including U.S. Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall, writer Langston Hughes, and Medal of Honor recipient Christian Fleetwood. These individuals reflect the university's rich history and commitment to excellence in various fields.
