Loma Linda University (LLU) was established on August 26, 1905, originally as Loma Linda Sanitarium. It was founded by Ellen G. White, an important figure in the Seventh-day Adventist movement. The university began accepting nursing students in December of the same year. The Loma Linda University Medical Center (LLUMC) started its operations on July 9, 1967, and the Loma Linda University Children's Hospital opened in 1993. Today, LLU has eight schools: Behavioral Health, Medicine, Pharmacy, Nursing, Allied Health Professions, Public Health, Dentistry, and Religion. It is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).
Located in the Inland Empire, near Los Angeles in California, LLU shares its campus with six hospitals. This setup allows students to gain practical experience and training. The campus is designed with excellent facilities, including spacious classrooms, a bookstore, well-equipped labs, and the Del E. Webb Memorial Library. For student accommodation, there are the Daniells Residence Complex and Lindsay Hall. Additionally, the campus features several cafeterias that offer healthy and satisfying meals, along with various extracurricular activities to help students unwind and stay active.
LLU offers a wide range of programs, including over 120 bachelor's, master's, certificate, associate, and doctoral degrees in fields such as medicine, public health, nursing, pharmacy, and behavioral health. The university also provides many online education options. With more than 4,400 students from over 80 countries, around 18 to 22 percent of the student body consists of international students. The faculty team includes over 1,550 qualified members who provide career services, such as counseling, networking events, workshops, training programs, and recruitment opportunities on campus.
The university is proud of its successful alumni. Notable graduates include T.R.M. Howard, a civil rights leader and surgeon, and Frank Jobe, an orthopedic surgeon known for his work in sports medicine, particularly Tommy John surgery. Other distinguished alumni include Cynara Coomer, a medical contributor to Fox News, and theologian Brian Brock, among others. These individuals illustrate the university's commitment to producing leaders in various fields.
