Marywood University

Overview

Marywood University is a Catholic liberal arts university located in Scranton, Pennsylvania. It was founded in 1915 by the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. The first group of students graduated in 1919 with degrees in arts, science, and letters. Over the years, the university has expanded its courses to cover a wide range of subjects, including social sciences and pre-medical studies. Currently, more than 3,000 students attend Marywood, pursuing undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs. The campus also features a national arboretum with over 100 types of trees and shrubs.

Marywood University offers programs through four colleges, providing around 40 bachelor's degrees, 21 master's degrees, and two doctoral degrees. All students must complete a core curriculum in liberal arts alongside their major courses. Students can choose to double major, join honors programs, or take part in internships and study abroad opportunities. The university also has Army and Air Force ROTC programs for those interested in military training.

The university is divided into three main colleges. The College of Arts and Sciences offers departments like Art, Communication Arts, and Science. The McGowan Center for Graduate and Professional Studies serves students in the College of Professional Studies and offers counseling services.
