Overview

Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU) was established in 1887 as the University of Oregon Medical Department and was renamed in 2001. It is a public research university located in Portland, Oregon, with a large campus that includes two hospitals. In 1974, it became an independent institution known as the University of Oregon Health Sciences Center, which brought together several health programs including medicine, nursing, and public health. In 2001, OHSU merged with the Oregon Graduate School and adopted its current name.
