Robert S McNamara Fellowships are given to students seeking a master's degree in economics or a doctorate in development economics. This fellowship is a component of the World Bank's Robert S. McNamara Fellowship Programme (RSMFP), which began in 1982. A decision of the World Bank's Executive Directors formed RSMFP. This program was created to improve the engagement of aspiring development economists in global policymaking. For an eight-month term in Washington, DC, the selected fellows are taught by the world's most distinguished thinkers.

A chosen applicant receives competitive compensation of INR 37,36,881 paid in monthly installments and assistance with G4 visa applications from the World Bank's HR Operations.
To be considered for this fellowship award, applicants must meet the following eligibility conditions at the time of application:
Citizens of a developing country that is a World Bank member, such as India, Bangladesh, or China but you need to keep in mind that you DO NOT HAVE DOUBLE CITIZENSHIP IN A DEVELOPING COUNTRY.
On the application due date, you must be under the age of 35.
A World Bank member who is enrolled in a Ph.D. program and residing in a developing member country.
Completed the prerequisite coursework and exams for admission to a Ph.D. program.
The PhD thesis should be focused on development.
NOT a member of the World Bank group's staff or linked to any member of the World Bank group's staff.
All those applicants who meet the eligibility criteria can access the online application form when the fellowship body releases the call for applications. Before submitting an application, applicants need to check that they meet the eligibility requirements.
The first thing is to obtain the approval of a Host Institution Research Advisor as well as the Ph.D. Thesis Supervisor.
Then you need to collect any necessary documentation.
After that, draft a research proposal for the Fellowship period in the format of the section on "Proposed Research for RSMFP Funding" on the Application Form.
Once the proposal is drafted, prepare a research budget for this fellowship period of no more than INR 20,81,435 using the budget template available on the RSMFP website.
Post that, share and discuss the potential host institution's research proposal and budget for RSMFP funding with the Research Advisor and Ph.D. Thesis Supervisor.
Then you need to confirm with the research adviser at the host institution the resources he/she and the host institution will be able to give free of charge.
Confirm that the recommenders are willing to fill out the Recommendation Form.
In the end, fill out the Recommendation Request Form online and submit it.

After that, you need to sign the agreement to the RSMFP's terms and conditions.
