McGill charges tuition by term, with fees billed to the student account (Minerva) and due before or near the start of each semester. International students are automatically enrolled in the International Health Insurance Plan and pay mandatory student fees on top of tuition. The guaranteed-tuition model means international undergraduates in a bachelor's, DMD, or MDCM degree keep the same tuition rate for the duration of their program. Residence rent is billed monthly, while the mandatory meal plan is split into two installments (September and January).
McGill awards entrance scholarships on academic merit, but most are partial and competitive — unlike universities that guarantee a flat international award. Major renewable scholarships can cover a substantial share of tuition, but the majority of international students pay close to the headline rate.
| Programme | Headline Fee (CAD/yr) | With Scholarship | You Pay (approx.) |
|---|---|---|---|
|
Any undergraduate (Major Entrance Scholarship) |
CAD 49,000 – 70,000 |
Up to full tuition (renewable, very competitive) |
Sharply reduced for the few top awardees |
|
Any undergraduate (McGill Entrance Scholarship) |
CAD 49,000 – 70,000 |
CAD 3,000 – 12,000 (one-time) |

|
Undergraduate (no scholarship) |
CAD 49,000 – 70,000 |
None |

The large renewable awards (e.g. McConnell, Lloyd Carr-Harris, Birks) are few and highly competitive; most international students rely on the smaller one-time entrance scholarships or external funding.
