IELTS Test Centers in India
IELTS is widely recognized as the most popular English language proficiency test for those seeking to study, work or migrate abroad. When you register for IELTS and pay the application fee of INR 15,500, you will be required to choose your preferred city and test date, which may differ based on location and test type.
From 25 July 2021, British Council is no longer administrating IELTS centers in India. All IELTS tests are delivered by IDP India at 37 locations.
Latest Update on IELTS: Test takers who want to improve their marks in any one of the sections: reading, writing, listening, speaking can choose the IELTS One Skill Retake option starting from March 2023 in India.

How to reschedule or cancel the IELTS test?
If for certain reasons you are unable to appear for the IELTS test as scheduled, inform the test center where you have booked the slot. IELTS cancellation charges are as follows:
- If you postpone or cancel your test before 5 weeks of the test date, then you will be refunded a partial amount after the deduction of administrative charges.
- If you can cancel or postpone the test within 5 weeks of the exam date you will be charged full fees and there will be no refund.
No refund is done if cancellation is done within 5 weeks of the test date, exemptions to this are done:
- In case there was a medical condition (serious illness/injury/ bereavement/ hardship/trauma/military service) due to which you were not able to attend the exam and you are able to prove it by producing a medical certificate within 5 days of the exam then you will be refunded a partial amount after deduction of administrative charges.
- In case you are not able to attend the exam due to circumstances that are beyond your control like a transport strike then the test center may offer you to book IELTS slot that is next available.
IELTS test center rules and regulations
IELTS test centers in India have a uniform set of rules and regulations, which one should always keep in mind before appearing for the test
- You have to bring your original passport or a National ID (preferably the one that you used to register), and it must contain a passport number, a signature, a date of birth, and a photograph.
- The IELTS exam centers in India will provide stationary and rough sheets for use.
- When taking the test you should keep your phones or other electronic devices outside the room at the IELTS test locations and keep them in switched-off mode.
- It is advised not to bring anything valuable to the test center on the date of the examination.
- You should immediately tell the test supervisor at the IELTS center about any issues with the computer or any other discrepancy.
- No eatables or drinks are allowed inside the test room.
- You will not be allowed to bring a watch to any of the IELTS exam centers in India, irrespective of the type of watch.
