IELTS Test Centers
The British Council and IDP India conduct IELTS tests at several test locations across the length and breadth of the country. IELTS exam is conducted 48 times a year to assess students’ and job applicants’ proficiency in the English language.
One needs to pay a fee of INR 14000 for taking the test, and it is the same for both the Academic Test and General Training test. Students can take the test any number of times at IELTS exam centers in India at several locations to make the test accessible to students from different regions of the country.
The exam is conducted at IELTS Centres across the globe, and the official website has a list of all the IELTS test centers in India.
An applicant shall choose the test center based on their proximity to their place of residence. The option of taking the test from home has also started in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

IELTS centers in India are spread across 78 locations. All the locations in totality cover the entire country, making it accessible for students from all the parts of the country without having the need to travel long distances. Out of all the IELTS test locations, the British Council manages 40 of them, and IDP India operates 37.

IELTS Test Centres Rules and Regulations
IELTS test centers in India have a uniform set of rules and regulations, which one should always keep in mind before appearing for the test.
IELTS test center rules:
- Candidates have to bring their original passport or a National ID, and it must contain a passport number, a signature, a date of birth, and a photograph.
- Applicants are allowed to bring the National ID or Passport. The IELTS exam centers in India will provide pen/Pencil and Eraser.
- Students taking the test should keep their phone or other electronic devices outside the room at the IELTS test locations and keep it in switched off mode.
- One should immediately tell the test supervisor at the IELTS center about any issues in the computer or any other discrepancy.
- No eatables or drinks are allowed inside the test room.
- The test takers shall remove no material used during the exam at the IELTS test center.
IELTS COVID Update
COVID-19 pandemic has affected the whole world, and IELTS exams aren’t left untouched. Many changes have been brought to ensure the safety of the students and the staff at the IELTS test centers in India. The cases are going up. Thus IELTS centers in India have shut down for a while, and IELTS conducting bodies have made announcements regarding the same from time to time. Several IELTS test locations are closed at the request of the local governments, and they will be opened only after the government orders when the situation will be conducive to take the test. Students are advised only to follow the IELTS official channel of communications for further updates on the opening up of test locations. Students will be communicated about the cancellation of the test dates in advance since few have to travel some distance to reach their test centers.

If there is any further update on the addition or deletion of the test center, the official website will update the details. All the test centers in India except the one mentioned above will be conducting the tests at respective IELTS test locations. Once the local authorities give clearance, the test centers will allow taking the test with all the precautions being suggested by the local authorities.
Test Centres Closed In India for the Pen and Paper-based IELTS
The pen and paper-based test stand canceled for all the IELTS test centers in India scheduled to take place on the 8th May 2022. Also, the IELTS Life skill tests scheduled on the 6th May 2022 are canceled for the following cities:
- Delhi, Chandigarh, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bangaluru, Chennai, Kolkata, Cochin
Computer-based UKVI test scheduled on 27th April 2022 stands canceled for the following cities at all the IELTS test centers:
- Delhi, Chennai, and Mumbai.
The pen and paper-based IELTS UKVI also stand canceled scheduled to take place on the 8th May 2022 at the following IELTS centers in India:
- Ahmedabad, Delhi, Chandigarh, Kochi, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kolkata, and Mumbai.
Test day precautions in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic at all the IELTS test locations:
- The temperature will be recorded at the time of entering the test center.
- It is compulsory to wear a mask at the test centers, and it will be removed only at the time of identification and after the toilet break.
- Students must have the Aarogya Setu app on their phones. However, it is not mandatory.
- A 6 feet distance must be maintained between the test takers and staff members at the IELTS center.
- A test taker will not be allowed to remove the mask even at the time of the speaking test.
Things to bring to the IELTS test centers
There are strict rules and regulations which has to be kept in mind by the test takers. IELTS test centers in India doesn’t allow the following things:
- Bringing eatables at the IELTS center.
- No drinks are allowed inside the test center.
- Pen, Pencil, Sharpener, Eraser, and ID proof are the only things allowed inside the test room.
- Students are allowed to bring masks or face covers amid the COVID-19 pandemic to contain the spread of infection.
- Students can also bring a hand sanitizer to the test center to maintain basic hygiene at the test centers.
- Students aren’t allowed to bring a watch to any of the IELTS exam centers in India, irrespective of the type of watch.
